A Brief History of Propane
In 1910, Dr. Walter O. Snelling, a chemist and explosives expert for the U.S. Bureau of Mines, was contacted to investigate vapors coming from a gasoline tank vent of a newly purchased Ford Model T. Dr. Snelling filled a glass jug with the gasoline from the Ford Model T and discovered on his way back to the lab that volatile vapors were forming in the jug, causing its cork to repeatedly pop out. He began experimenting with these vaporous gases to find methods to control and hold them.

Propane - An Inexpensive Alternative Fuel
Propane prices are subject to a number of influences, some common to all petroleum products, and others unique to propane. Because propane is easily transported, it can serve many different markets, from fueling barbecue grills to producing petrochemicals.

Propane's Environmental Impact
Propane is not a direct greenhouse gas when released into the air. Current measurements have not found a global climate impact from propane emissions (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change-IPCC). Compared to conventional fuel sources, propane generates fewer GHG emissions in almost every application. At the point of use, propane has a lower carbon content than gasoline, diesel, heavy fuel oil, or even biodiesel and ethanol.

Propane Distribution
Decreasing our dependence on foreign oil is a critical issue facing our government at all levels. During the 1970s the U.S. imported approximately 35 percent of its oil supply; by 2005 that figure increased to approximately 65 percent imported from foreign nations (Source: Energy Information Administration). America can achieve a more secure energy future. And propane will help us reach that goal in many ways.
